The Void of Amusement is the second book of The Holy Bimble. It continues Sam Bimble’s journey through P.U.R.G.A.T.O.R.Y., accompanied by his chaperone and chiropractic ferret/angel: Quino.
In this book, Sam shambles through the volatile climes of Ubermenchia (the second dimension of P.U.R.G.A.T.O.R.Y.) where he comes into contact with monsters, phantasms, and a good-sized tree. He also meets a pretty lady named Alice Hawthorne. Things happen between Sam and Alice that involves a lot of sweat, grunting, and perhaps satisfaction.
The Void of Amusement also delves into the sordid happenstances of Sam’s Uncle Terry, who is dead and in Hell and not very happy about it. He is hounded by Lucifer, who demands answers about his nephew and why The Creator is specifically interested in him.
While Sam and Terry fumble about in the afterlife, the only living family member left on Earth is Sam’s aunt, Marsha Bimble. She is bequeathed Terry’s agricultural empire and moves into his plantation-style mansion along with her stepdaughter Sharon. This was fortunate for Marsha and Sharon because they were poor and living a frugal life. Their fortune turns sour when they are confronted by Onyx-Nell (The Third High Priestess of Longchininia), who curses the Bimble name for the murder of her loyal (wo)man-servant.
Following Onyx-Nell’s curse, the Bimble household becomes a haunted domicile of palpable evil where pets become possessed by spirits who have respective agendas of their own.
The Void of Amusement is anything but a void of amusement.
